What does a chiropractor do?
Chiropractors are trained to locate the underlying cause a person’s health concerns and symptoms. By eliminating the underlying cause they allow the body to heal naturally.

Chiropractors understand that the nerve system coordinates all functions of the body and its proper function is necessary for health and healing. They locate areas of the spine that are “locked up” or not functioning properly, (also called subluxations). These “locked up” areas can affect the proper functioning of the nerve at that level of the spine.

When a nerve is irritated it cannot send proper signals to and from the areas of the body it controls. When this occurs your body is designed to provide you with a symptom to let you know what areas are not functioning in an optimal way. One of the many symptoms many people experience is tension and pain at the area of the spine that is affected, and symptoms related to the corresponding areas the nerve supplies.

Chiropractors use painless spinal adjustments to restore motion and health to the spine, the nerve system and surrounding tissues. Proper function is restored, and the body heals naturally, the way it was designed to.

Chiropractors also make stretching, strengthening and nutrition recommendations to support the new level of wellness achieved by patients.

What is the noise associated with an adjustment?
The adjustment may cause a noise, this is not the bones cracking. The noise is the pressure (air) being released from between the misaligned or stuck spinal bones- much like the built up pressure being released when you open a new can of tennis balls.

Are all patients adjusted the same way?
Each adjustment is tailored individually to the patient's specific case. There are many ways to restore spinal health. The patient’s age, diagnosis, pain level, possible pregnancy and comfort level are all important factors.

Once I go to a chiropractor do I have to keep going?
Absolutely not! Once is better than never, yet many people do choose to continue to receive the benefits of chiropractic. How long you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you.

Is chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic is one of the safest health professions in the world. In fact, it is the largest natural health profession in the world.

Can a person who has had back surgery or fracture still see a chiropractor?
Definitely. Conditions such as these often place extra stress and tensions on the spine and tissues. To leave this extra stress unchecked leads to further problems in other areas. Xrays and other tests will be done to ensure that chiropractic is the right choice for you.

What kind of education does a chiropractor have?
A chiropractor's education is the same length as a general practitioner. Chiropractors do a minimum of 3 years undergraduate work followed by 4 years of chiropractic schooling. In fact, chiropractic education is so extensive, chiropractors are one of the very few professionals who have the knowledge to diagnose patients, read Xrays and are given the title doctor.

How do I know if I can benefit from chiropractic?
A case history, thorough exam and possible Xrays are done on the first visit. The doctor will then take the time to ensure that you understand the cause of your symptoms and the recommended course of action. If the doctor determines that you are not a chiropractic case you will be referred to the appropriate health practitioner.
