My story continued - From great pain came a wonderful gift

I was completing my second year of my biology degree and was on my way to medical school when I began to experience severe headaches. My headaches became so debilitating that I found it difficult to study. I knew that the stress of school was contributing to my symptoms.

I went to my family’s medical doctor for help. When I explained my situation he offered to give me some medication for my headaches. I had never liked taking drugs. “I don’t think that will work,” I said, “You see, I have many more years of schooling and therefore many more years of stress ahead of me. I don’t want to have to keep taking more and more drugs. What else can you do for me?” His answer was a turning point in my life. “I have nothing else I can do for you.” He said.

I left his office confused and due to the referral of friend made an appointment with a chiropractor. The chiropractor did an exam and explained to me that my headaches were resulting from bones in my neck irritating the nerves in that area. He talked about the body’s ability to heal when the irritation is removed. I began to get adjusted and to my amazement my headaches disappeared.

That experience changed my career path. I applied to Chiropractic College, not Medical School and the rest is history.

We all know that great gifts often come out of painful situations. I am certainly grateful to have had the experience with my headaches, they pointed me in a direction I am extremely thankful for.
